Well, nearly 2 months after her accident…Bethany has come home! It’s amazing what God has done. When I remember the words of the Dr. and the look on the chaplains face and in the nurses eyes upon our arrival at the hospital that terrible morning…then I look at her now, I just shake my head in wonder. The qualified staff never thot we’d see this day. But our God is mighty and awesome and we have all witnessed a miracle. I just want everyone…including myself, to remember that. I saw the MRI of my daughters brain that first day…it was not a good thing. This healing and quick improvement we’ve all seen is not happenstance or chance. This is a flat out bring the roof down shoutin’ miracle! And I will never stop thanking my Father for saving my baby…in more ways than we first realized. More to come on that…
Bethany is walking, talking, eating etc… very well, and fully functional…with the exception being the short term memory. Very short…like maybe a minute. Imagine repeating the same info over and over and over minute by minute….it’s difficult at times. Whew! Also, we still have to keep her in a low stimulation envirenment to avoid painful headaches. Noise, light, activity…lot’s of talking, laughing…things like that can bring it on. Some one has to be right by her side 24/7 because of the danger with her skull missing a big section on the side. Still trying to figure out how to rig the bed up to feel safe and secure….Putting bells, chimes and alarms on doors. Lots of measures to keep her safe.
We need to find ways to keep the therapy going for her. Found out on Medicade only 6 sessions are covered, after that we’re on our own. We’ve been told that EWU offers speech therapy at a reduced rate by students. Apparently speech therapy is the most important therapy for bringing back the memory. She was also getting Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Recreational Therapy at the hospital. They did work sheets, flash cards, kicking or batting a ball around, Wii games such as skiing or bowling, work-outs in the gymn on special machines etc…The Therapists at St. Lukes were really awesome. Will miss them.
Well, hopefully someone will have time to update Bethanysgrace blog on wordpress. If you want to see from the beginning, that’s the place to see pics and updates. We will all be very busy, but happy! Thank you all for your prayers. You share in the miracle .I pray that God has stretched your faith and boosted your confidence in HIM thru this. He is mighty, kind, loving, long-suffering, powerful and a fierce warrior who saves! Father God is able to exceeding abundantly above all that you can ask or even think to ask! Remember that…Promise me that you will remember that.
Cassandra has posted lots of pictures, they can be located on my page as well. Blessings!
